it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"You teach 6th grade? Wow!" That is often what I hear when asked what I do. I work at an elementary school that has students from pre-Kindergarten to sixth grade. We are a Title I school that serves both breakfast and lunch and all of my students qualify for free or reduced meal plans. I teach 30 students, many of them English Language Learners. Every single day is an adventure. One of the truly nice things about my school is that it really is a neighborhood school. It is relatively small compared to other schools in the district, and most of the students that attend have many other family members here.
As sixth graders, they are learning skills that are getting them college and even career ready.
The students work hard from the moment we arrive until the bell rings and it is time to go home. The students thrive on hands-on learning in our STEM units and are fascinated by technology. My students are as capable as all other students in the nation. I just want to give them the same opportunities as everyone.
My Project
"When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen." Ernest Hemingway. This project is to provide a wireless microphone that is encased in a soft, bouncy ball that the students and teacher can toss to each other allowing for more engaging, interactive discussion to take place in the classroom. The microphone is sturdy and won't break even if it is dropped on the floor. I have many ELL students in my classroom who don't always participate in discussions or have very quiet voices that are often very hard to hear.
With a QBall throwable microphone, my students can easily have their ideas heard, and they will be able to lead their own discussions in a very fun way!
The QBall is a fun and interactive way to allow all the students to participate in classroom discussions and practice their speaking and listening skills. This is a 21st century skill that is vital for our students to learn in order to be successful in today's workplace. By introducing the QBall microphone into my classroom, I will be giving my students a tool to help them learn how to do this in a non-threatening way and they will have a good time as well!
