My Students
My students are bursting with energy and have a strong desire to grow and learn.
The majority of my students are Native American and due to the low socioeconomic area we live in, 100 percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
I am aware of the challenges many of my students face, and I make sure that when they walk through my classroom door, they are all given an equal opportunity to learn in a positive, encouraging environment.
My Project
My students are amazing. They work so hard but often they get frustrated and don't believe in themselves. I know they are capable of anything they put their minds to, but they haven't build that confidence yet.
I don't want to hear my students say they aren't good at something or "I can't." With a growth mindset, my students can change their perceptions of their abilities.
When my students believe they can get smarter, they will be able to understand that their hard work makes them stronger. Carol Dweck says, "This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment."
The books I am requesting will be used during read alouds and in small groups to help my students see characters that exemplify a growth mindset. The characters in these books overcome obstacles and labels to develop extraordinary talents and capabilities. The books will help my students see the power of yet and how they too, can do anything they put their minds to.
