My 9th graders and I have navigated the uncharted territory of teaching and learning. Now, we are back together and creating formulas for winning in school.
A major part of our win stems from our culture codes.
"There is power in my pivot" is just one of them. As we practice and develop the winning values of advocacy, collaboration, and respect, we are experiencing transformative changes in our relationships, and academic achievement. It is amazing and fun to witness.
My Project
Students will use the novels in Philosophical Chairs Discussions, and as mentor texts to create mini-memoirs, or vignettes documenting the pivotal decisions that have shaped their lives.
My students will build their reading fluency by reading relevant and engaging stories.
While they will be challenged to identify critical pivots, or turning points in their characters' lives.
Just as the titles in this collection of novels underscore the value of making progress, my students will experience the transformative power of storytelling on their own terms in order to represent who they are.
