My students need story retelling kits! Story retelling is so powerful in helping children's reading comprehension develop and we need more retelling kits!
Story retelling is a POWERFUL way to teach and develop children's reading comprehension. My students LOVE to retell stories but we only have a few retelling kits in our classroom. I want to be able to continue story retelling throughout the year but I need more kits to do so.
I have 22 students that are ages five and six in an Iowa school.
We spend a majority of our day on literacy and we are a school that is dedicated to improving student's reading skills. They LOVE literacy centers and one of my centers is story retelling. They get so excited when they are retelling a familar story and I love to hear them act out the story. They don't even realize they are learning because they are having so much fun!
My Project
I will put these story retelling kits in a literacy center. Each student will get the opportunity to read and act out the stories using the kits several times. Reading skills have a lifelong impact on students lives. I dedicate such a huge amount of my day and time to improving reading skills for all my students.
The story retelling kits will provide a vital role in improving my student's reading comprehension which will improve their reading skills.
Story retelling is a powerful way to teach reading comprehension. Reading comprehension is critically important to developing children's reading skills.
