Student portfolios are a necessary classroom tool to get students looking at the progression of their work and the skills they acquire throughout the school year.
I teach 125 7th grade students in the area of Language Arts. Our school is located in an extremely high-need community. 95% of the students attending our school receive free lunch.
As a language arts teacher, I recognize that student portfolios are powerful. They provide documentation for communication with parents, administrators and other teachers. Portfolios teach students to reflect and revise their work and become more aware of their learning process. The hanging file folders and storage boxes to organize them are an expense I cannot afford to supply personally and I am looking for assistance to bring the power of portfolios to my classroom.
In order for my students to create portfolios, we need a legal sized hanging file folder for each student and the containers to hold the folders. Research in the education field shows that the process of creating portfolios and monitoring what goes into those portfolios is a meaningful process for students. Portfolios are a best practice for classrooms at the middle school level and are good for both students and teachers to reflect on the learning process throughout the year.
Your help will ensure that my students experience the process of building meaningful portfolios that showcase their talents.
