In a world with so many words, it is important to highlight the power and importance of using the right words, in the right moment, for the right reason. Reading and writing poetry provides students with valuable practice in using both concise and creative language to share a message. These poetry books will be added to my class library for everyday reading, as well as used to support instruction in both reading and writing.
Poetry is a powerful tool for supporting the social emotional needs of young learners.
One of the goals for including poetry in my instruction is to provide an avenue for students to express their thoughts in a way that does not require formal writing. Poetry also addresses many foundational reading skills while also encouraging deeper comprehension skills. Help me make poetry a part of my practice.
