My Students

My 4th and 5th grade students come from the surrounding local communities, are of different ethnic backgrounds, are of many varied economic situations, have different beliefs, and are engaged, creative learners starting their academic journey at a fairly new charter school. Together, these students observe, question, collaborate, communicate, and create! Inquiry is at the heart of each and every day. We encourage children to observe, to ask questions, to learn, and to share their discoveries with others.

My Project

Starting the school year during Covid-19 is an uncertain and anxious undertaking. Help my students start the year in a creative and hands-on way by giving them the materials to engage in an inquiry unit about the power of plants. When students can engage with the material, whether in the class or from home, they will be more successful. This project gives them the opportunity to grow their own plants, observe and learn about plants around them, and understand the history of the plants of California. These materials will make the learning more equitable for all students to access the curriculum through books, art, and hands-on planting. More than ever, we need to get back to nature!
