My Students
My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. My students are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to the country. While my students come from a diverse background there are many commonalities that bring them together. Many of my students, are interested in the creative arts and photography. I would like teach my students the art and power of photography as a tool to uplift the communities that they live in.
My Project
Photography is a tool that has the ability to bring cultures, ideas and humans of all ages and genders together by capturing one moment in time. This is a tool that I hope to bring to the hands of my students through introducing photography to them. My goal is to give a voice to my students, their families, communities and cultures by creating a photography class that will teach my students how to capture and uplift their stories. My goal is to have my students study the art of photography and use it as a tool of communication to uplift communities around them. Their budding photography skills will document the game changers in their community, whether it be the culturally and religiously diverse communities that they live in, women working in STEM, or community members uplifting their city daily. My students will learn how to become an intricate part of documenting the resilient and powerful communities that they live in.
