Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom motto is hands on- minds on. I love to teach and engage children on firsthand experiences. They are hungry for learning centers that promote social interaction and enable them to experience success.
Our classroom is filled with a diverse group of 5 and 6 year-old energetic, active and excited learners.
The majority of them are immigrants. They are coming from different culture and background. Many of them are just newcomers. Most of them didn’t have the universal PreK experiences where they learn and interact through play. With the help of your donations, students will have the opportunity to have this social interaction, engagement and learning by doing. They will acquire content knowledge in ELA and Math through learning centers that match their own interest, needs and developmental level.
My Project
The purposeful play should not stop when students enter to Kindergarten. When they play they are negotiating, working together and are engaged on what they are doing so with rigor. When I say center time, my students shout “yeah”. With this project, my students will have the opportunity to enhance their learning, as they will learn, think, and construct knowledge. “Play is the work of children”. The students will use this instant learning centers everyday in small groups. These learning centers have enough materials for up to 4 children to work at once, including a double-sided instructional chart with simple pictures instructions making it easy to read/understand, and accessible for everyone. Instead of gain knowledge secondhand, by listening to someone else telling them, they will be the ones who are receiving information directly and making sense of it. Students will be involved in materials that cover a wide range of early ELA and Math skills based on the Common Core Standards.
Moreover, knowledge of subject matter is not enough.
It is not only about textbooks. I need to expand and extend my children’s learning. These centers have everything students need starting from building beginning language skills all the way to mastery early math skills. These concepts are like the first rung on a ladder of learning.
This project will help my students to have playful and joyful experiences in Kindergarten as they will have fun and learn at the same time. My students will acquire the solid foundation needed for further grades and develop positive attitudes toward learning. This project will positively impact my students learning.
