My Students
We need ink to help us think! When my students have beautiful visuals, they are easily engaged and naturally curious. Our printer is low on ink, and we also need paper (including card stock, photo paper, and mailing envelopes) to start the new school year.
My special needs preschool and kindergarten-aged students have been identified as having developmental delays.
Planning ahead for this fall, my classroom can include students with a variety of impairments, including Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disability, visual, hearing, or orthopedic impairments, specific learning disability, and more. In this coming year, the district plans to add a reverse mainstream component that will include a few typically developing preschoolers to act as positive role models. They attend a public elementary school and range in age from 2-6 years old. My students are so eager to learn and are excited about coming to school.
Our Title One school is located in a high-poverty area and more than 80% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. Our city and surrounding area are home to several major US military installations, as well as a world-class shipyard that is the sole ship builder of the US Navy's air craft carriers.
My Project
Our world is a colorful place, and we need ink and paper to keep our printer working! As a classroom of students with special needs, some of whom are non-verbal, we rely on being able to print visuals such as picture schedules, communication boards, Boardmaker and PECS pictures, parent letters, etc. Our visuals can be made more durable for heavy handling by students by laminating them with the pouches we are requesting.
Having ink, paper, and laminating pouches will positively affect my student's abilities to communicate and allow us to take advantage of modern technology for learning.
I consider the ability to print so my students can communicate their needs to be a necessity. We truly appreciate the support to our classroom request, and thank you for considering our project.
