Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are elementary school children that come from a low socioeconomic background in an impoverish community in East New York, Brooklyn, New York. My students are misunderstood and have learned to respond to their environment. These children are prone to explosive behaviors, angry outburst, self-harm, depressive episodes, anxiety, ADHD and many other mental health disorders. Most of the students also come from immigrant families that struggle with stigma, lack of resources and lack of knowledge on how to help their children. This project will help me in my work towards empowering them with self-management, self-awareness and self-regulation. The items on this list will provide them with the tools to make a body and mind connecting on their feelings. It will enable them to identify and properly explain what they are feelings. The rug will create a space of acceptance (rug of feelings) and puppet will promote self expression.
