This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher, it is my goal to elevate my students, and inspire in them the belief that anything is possible and that if they push themselves they will succeed. At just six years old, my students face poverty, emotional and physical abuse, hunger, and emotional distress/trauma. And yet despite their hardships, I see that my first graders have courage, strength, and perseverance. Ultimately, in order to help them, l find I must meet each student's need individually, which entails reaching them emotionally before I can reach them academically.
My Project
Due to traumatic experiences my students face on a daily basis, it is often difficult for them to exercise self-discipline over their physical restlessness. The use of flexible seating, such as wobble stools and bouncy bands, enables students to channel out their restless energy in a positive way. Allowing students to choose which seating will fit their needs gives them the power and independence to address their emotions and achieve a measure of self-control.
In order to push my students to their academic potential, their emotional wellness must be achieved first.
These flexible seating supplies will enable my students to acquire that wellness. My students need your support to help make their classroom environment tailored to their needs. Our class thanks you!
