This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are painters, readers, inventors, writers, mathematicians, athletes, social butterflies, techies, gamers, and dancers. They are witty, sensitive, and self-conscious, as all fourth graders are. And they are filled with joy, curiosity, resiliency, and hope.
Many of my students face serious academic, social, and emotional challenges at school and at home, yet they persevere, and though they are limited by their circumstances, they are unhindered in their creativity and aspirations.
They honestly are all that is good about the world and I am honored to be their teacher.
My Project
We have all heard that there are many types of learners out there. So why are the locations for learning so limited? Beyond the desks and rug, I want to help my students understand themselves better as learners by providing them with diverse work spaces that meet their learning needs.
Standing, sitting, reclining, or even bouncing - creative collaborative learners need and yearn for choice.
That's why my project includes seating options like yoga balls, poufs, wobble stools, and beanbag chairs - all intended to provide students comfortable work spaces away from the traditional seating arrangement. I also need bookcases, bins, and small storage to keep student supplies neat and organized.
I envision a total classroom redesign with the focus on students at the center. Unfortunately, there's simply no room in the budget or furniture in the warehouse to accommodate our need, and so I turn to you! Please help us to become a more responsive classroom, a more engaging environment, and more successful bunch of scholars!
