My Students
(Dr. Seuss) "Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places..! " Every day is an adventure and my students make each day their own. With the donations, they will have the tools necessary to be excited about their today and prepare for tomorrow. They will be "off to great places."
My school is very diverse with students from all over the world, speaking many different languages.
10% are English Language Learners with limited or no English. We have students from various socioeconomic areas. 29% are students living in poverty. 3% of our students are GATE (gifted and talented education) qualified. We are a large, year-round elementary school with a population of approximately 1,025 students. Within our population we also have students with various emotional, physical, and learning disabilities. In my 2nd grade classroom, I have 25 students from different cultures, speaking different languages. There are families who are not able to purchase computers for their home and therefore students are not able to access technology at home. My students are an amazing group of "sponges" who soak up everything they are learning and often want to know more. Regardless of the different learning levels in our classroom, they are excited to be at school everyday and learn everything they can.
My Project
My students LOVE having the opportunity to work on the computer! Having 4 chromebooks in our classroom will allow the students to work independently, with partners or in small groups on various projects. They will have the opportunity to research information, access various educational sites, and write papers on the chromebooks. They are engaged and excited when they're able to access information on their own. Unfortunately, we have only one computer in our classroom and having a limited time period of 40 minutes every other week in the computer lab makes it difficult for them to utilize the Internet and its resources. State testing is now done on the computer beginning in 3rd grade. The more opportunities my students have working on a computer, the better prepared they will be for their upcoming year. The chromebooks will allow them additional time and practice strengthening their skills.
Donations to my project will improve my students experiences this year, and will be a stepping stone for future successes.
The chromebook will be an amazing tool in teaching to students specific needs. I will be able to ensure students feel successful and confident through assigned activities focused at individual academic levels. The more opportunities students have using technology the better for their future. The possibilities are endless with technology!
