My Students
I teach Special Education in an urban, public neighborhood school in Erie, PA. The children and families in our school community are a diverse cross section of many different cultures, ethnic groups, and languages.
When working with young people, there are times you see results in 10 seconds, and there are times you won't see them for 10 years.
Either way, keep planting those seeds of character; eventually, they bloom!
Our life skills and autistic support students have many challenges facing them. They would like to start The Popcorn Café for the teachers and staff at our school. The students will learn how to make popcorn, try out different varieties, take orders and deliver the popcorn, and be responsible for handling the money in their café. They will gain necessary employment skills they can use beyond high school.
My Project
The teachers and staff throughout our school love their popcorn! Our life skills students love responsibility and enjoy making others smile. They are very helpful and want to share their joy.Our life skills and autistic support students are always looking for more real job-related skills that they can complete in school.
We thought this would be a great way to incorporate both things.
Our students will learn money skills, social skills, responsibility, interpersonal skills, confidence, and gain some self worth. We are hoping to better prepare our students for entry-level jobs in our community. We are hoping with your help to start up we can make this business a success.
