The Pages are Blank, but the Words are There.

Help me give my students ink cartridges for our classroom printer so students may print their writing masterpieces (and the many drafts that precede those masterpieces)!

My Students

We are a Title I public elementary school in a large urban community in Missouri, the Show Me State.

Our Kindergarten classroom is composed of all boys, many of whom are English Language Learners.

Most of our classroom members started Kindergarten with no pre-school or other school experience. All but one of the students in our class have chosen to attend in person this semester, while one remains at home learning simultaneously with us virtually.

Our school is comprised of students from over forty different countries and features gender-specific classrooms to maximize gender-based learning and teaching strategies.

My Project

I would like to get my young students comfortable with written expression through the use of technology. I believe those reluctant writers who struggle with letter formation and fine motor skills are reticent when challenged to express their thoughts in written form. By giving them the option of typing their words and printing them, they will see their thoughts printed in text format similar to what they find in the books they read. My hope is they will then feel empowered to write more. As my kindergartners become more technologically advanced and skilled in composing sentences, they will be anxious to publish more work via our printer. We also print many projects with color ink so they may spend more time concentrating on the writing tasks rather than coloring backgrounds (they get plenty of time to color and express their artistic talents during our Art time!) These activites require lots of paper (a resource we do have) and ink (a resource that is very limited and no longer provided by our school).

We're in the Show-Me State and we're challenging you to show us you will invest in our kids to help them strengthen their writing skills through providing sufficient ink to publish their work.

Help us encourage and engage struggling and reluctant writers to become writing stars with this essential resource! Thank you for supporting our project!
