My Students
My student population is among the most diverse anywhere, and includes children of all races and religions, many nationalities, and those with learning challenges or for whom English is a second language. While lunch is provided for all students in my school, a significant number would qualify for financial assistance if required.
No two of my students are alike, yet all have hopes and dreams and are navigating the challenges of adolescence.
They are very special to me and I want them to share the most special of literature and learning experiences.
My Project
"Socs and Greasers," "Do it for Johnny," and "Stay Gold" are terms that when heard, transport us adults back to our teens years -- a very challenging time for all of us. We are requesting three class sets of "The Outsiders."
Nearly 50 years after its initial publication, The Outsiders remains a modern day classic, and with good reason.
Author SE Hinton said her motivation for writing it was to create a story that truly reflected the struggles teens face. Decades later, styles and technology have changed, but these struggles remain relatively constant. My classes would benefit from student copies that would afford them this unforgettable literary experience that holds a mirror to their lives. More so today, children of the pandemic need to know that most people understand and that they are never truly alone.
