I am a 7th and 8th grade language arts teacher in a socioeconomically-depressed area. Our school is in Kentucky tier consequences.

Many of our students live in poverty and our county has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. Our educational funding has been cut and resources are desperately needed.

Our school needs technology and books in order that we are to better able to pull our scores out of tier consequences. Our children need to be able to compete with other areas in their education. My students need 30 copies of The Outsiders book for a literary unit. The majority of these students are from a lower socioeconomic background and many do not enjoy reading. My goal is to instill a love of reading in those students who never enjoyed it before. I believe this particular book will reach many of those who do not like to read by making connections with their own lives.

Your help will ensure that my students will experience literature in a way that they, perhaps, may have not before.
