Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My goal for this project is to create spaces in my classroom where students have ownership over their learning and accomplishments. My students are special in that they may not have something that is uniquely their own at home. They may share a bedroom or even a bed with a sibling(s). And so, I would like to facilitate a sense of ownership and individuality in my classroom. Ensuring that my students have something that is exclusively their own.
The mailbox slots will provide each student with a spot of their own to gather their accomplishments (assignments and activities) throughout the week to share with their families.
The individual book bins will allow each student a spot that is entirely their own to rest their materials (books, binders, etc.). The storage cart will provide them with a designated spot to collect their daily center rotation materials. Each of these items fosters a sense of ownership. Every student will have a home base in the classroom. Whether that be for their papers to take home and share with their family, or their daily materials. My classroom is a space made for and by my students. Having these resources available to them will also further my efforts in creating responsible and independent learners.
The whiteboard allows for an extra space where students can think and learn vertically rather than seated at a table. This will ensure maximum engagement in the content being taught and will allow my students to have fun with their learning! All of these items combined will create a cohesive learning environment that is conducive to each of my students' uniqueness and individuality as learners and also as kids. These items will facilitate their learning in an organized and purposeful manner that will allow them to develop and grow effectively.
