They say a way to someone's heart is through their stomach. When it comes to high school students, that saying couldn't be more true! I started supplying healthy snacks for any student who asks--regardless of their grades, behavior, or if they're even in my class--when students started sharing information about their eating habits and I learned a large percentage of my students go through the whole school day without eating (an even larger percentage go through the whole school day eating nothing but a bag of candy or chips), I quickly realized the need was far greater than what I could afford, which is why I've turned to DonorsChoose so I can continue to provide students with snacks--and with each snack, the student is also getting a check-in and opportunity to share about their day, and a reminder that someone cares about them.
It's not just about providing them with nutrition; what's equally important is, with each bag of goldfish crackers, I'm letting them know that they are worthy, special, and loved.
And we never know how much that might mean to someone, or when the last time was that they felt worthy and loved. Your contribution will help ensure that I can provide a healthy snack and positive human interaction to any student who needs it during the first semester (16 weeks) of this school year.
