My Project

I am writing to share a project that will profoundly enrich the educational experience of my remarkable students. In our ICT classroom, which includes both general education and ENL (English as a New Language) students, we celebrate the rich diversity of backgrounds and perspectives that each student brings. Their resilience, curiosity, and eagerness to learn from one another create a vibrant and inclusive learning environment that I am privileged to be a part of.

I am seeking funding for a class set of the novel The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, in both Spanish and English.

This powerful story offers a poignant exploration of themes such as justice, resilience, and the impact of systemic inequities. It is a narrative that will resonate deeply with my students and provide a catalyst for meaningful discussions and learning.

Having The Nickel Boys available in both Spanish and English will make a significant difference in my students' learning. It will ensure that all students, regardless of their language proficiency, can fully engage with the text and participate in classroom discussions. This dual-language approach supports language development and comprehension, promoting both inclusivity and academic growth.

The primary goals for this project are to foster a deeper understanding of historical and social issues, enhance critical thinking skills, and support language acquisition for our ENL students. By engaging with this novel, students will have the opportunity to connect with complex themes, reflect on their own experiences, and develop empathy for others.

What makes my students truly special is their ability to embrace different perspectives and support each other in their learning journeys. They are eager to engage with challenging material and to learn from one another's experiences. This project will further empower them by providing access to a text that speaks to their varied backgrounds and interests.
