This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge," said Stephen Hawking. I would like my students to become little scientists and to make new and exciting discoveries.

My students are English language learners.

Their primary language is Spanish. They enter school with limited English skills. My students are very curious kindergartners with so many questions. I would like to keep their curiosity by providing many opportunities for true exploration to occur in the classroom. I teach in a low-socioeconomic community where resources are somewhat limited. As a school community we try to provide the best that we can for our students.

My Project

The Real-World STEM challenge kit will allow my students to explore and to think like scientists. They will be able to plan, build, and test their designs as they work towards successfully meeting each challenge. They will work in collaborative groups and will learn how to communicate effectively, how to negotiate, and many other skills. They will be able to make real world connections to what they are learning in school.

I want to provide a classroom with interesting and fun hands on activities for my students to use as they learn.

I want my students to be able to see that science is everywhere and to be able to make those real world connections.
