My students come from the most trauma exposed neighborhoods in our city. They live through nightly chaos, and yet still arrive to school daily, and with smiles on their faces. They inspire me, and I want to give them the world. I can't do exactly that, but I can give them a classroom filled with everything they need to succeed.
They have made a commitment and have taken on the challenge to be the change.
They want college, they want to learn, they want more — and are starting to gain the confidence that they are capable to do it all.
My Project
I am requesting chart paper, felt tip pens, graph note pads, post it notes and pencils. The materials in this project will be used to help students during their math block. My students worry about enough, they don't need to worry about coming to class with a pencil. The pencils will be there for them to take as needed. As we get further into our math curriculum we will need graph paper. I would like to have this ready for them, so that we can properly learn about the coordinate plane.
These materials might seem minute, but in my classroom they will move mountains.
The chart paper will allow me to continue to make anchor charts that apply to my students and their current learning needs. The flair pens are used by both me and my students when we work under the document camera to show our math thinking steps. The post its will allow my students to interact with their work in their notebooks and workbooks, as well as stop and jot questions throughout the class period.
