Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English Language Learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family's household incomes are below the poverty line.
My school is a large, crowded school, in a very large urban district.
This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Fourteen staff members from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.
My Project
These resources will be used as intervention tools for third grade students who are struggling with reading. Giving students choice helps make encourage the love of books in struggling readers. These leveled libraries will allow students to choose books to read at school and choose books to take home since many children in poverty do not have home libraries.
My school believes that all children deserve to be given the tools to learn how to read.
I work with third grade students who have fallen below grade level and need additional help. These comprehension games will help students build skills in a fun way. Along with the small group intervention materials, I will be able target specific skills students are struggling with to help them be successful at school and in their future. Thank you for believing in my struggling readers as much as I do!
