This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a very diverse Title 1 school with students who possess great capacity for becoming lifelong lovers of reading. We have students who face challenges at school and at home, and we hope to bridge the gap to make sure they know their full potential in life. We also have students that could use the extra challenge to make them even greater students than they already are. By reading more on various levels, we can take them to the places they want to and need to go!
We have a class full of superb readers, just not all of them may realize it yet.
We want to pull that out of them and increase their self-confidence in their reading ability from fluency to comprehension.
My Project
Reading engages students in so many ways. It allows them to interact in their own minds and expand their thinking, and then interact with others in thoughtful discussion. Books expand many facets of a child's knowledge.
Expanding our selection of books in the classroom will help expand the minds of our students.
By having sets of books that the students can discuss, they will be able to enrich their thinking and build background knowledge about different topics. With a classroom collection of leveled readers, we will have more choices than the limited set we have in our classroom right now. This will not only provide students with a variety of sources, but it will also expand the levels we have available for increasing their reading capacity.
