My Students

I teach at a Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school located on a military base in Texas.

My school is a Title 1 school, where over 75% is on free or reduced lunch. 98% of my students have one or both parents military and a majority are deployed. Also because of the military I gain and lose students all throughout the year.

My Project

These are books are a fun way to teach concepts in music such as rhyming and acting out the words. Most of the time students go home and sit in front of a television and sit there for hours not worrying about books are even there homework. Being able to integrate reading into the music classroom will help these students enjoy reading. For my younger students we usually read a book about once a week and for the older students we have been starting music centers where they get a chance to read a book of their choice. All of these books are a fun way to move reading into the music classroom and I am excited to see the music library grow!

When I bring out the book from the bookshelf the students are so excited to see what book I will be reading that day.

I would love to have more choices and for these books to be more readily available to the students during centers and during story time.
