I have a diverse group of fifth grade students. Many students live in low-socioeconomic neighborhoods and read significantly below grade level. Their ability levels range from students who struggle in school due to learning disabilities, to students performing above grade level and are gifted. One common characteristic among all students is their enthusiasm for learning.
I work diligently to plan exemplary literacy lessons and activities that challenge the students, but also allow them to use their unique talents and abilities to showcase or demonstrate their depth of knowledge.
I want to motivate and inspire my students to become lifelong learners.
My Project
Research has demonstrated that for students to become better readers, they need to have a plethora of books in the classroom library. The books should be readily accessible for students to check out. Additionally, the students need books on a variety of reading levels and across all genres. Because I work with students who struggle with reading, I want to ensure they have a variety of books that will motivate and inspire the students to read on a daily basis. My goal is to instill a love of reading in all my students.
