This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title l Distinguished school, and 90% of the school population receives a free or reduced-price lunch. We currently have Breakfast-in-the-Classroom to provide food for those students whose families are struggling financially. My classroom consists of students with intellectual disabilities - ADHD, Autism, SLD, Visual/Auditory Processing Disorder.
They LOVE reading all kinds of books, especially book collections because it encourages them to read more!
Students with intellectual disabilities NEED a print-rich classroom and more books to help them access not only the reading curriculum, but also the world around them. Books are also especially helpful for my students because it gives them equitable access to their academic goals.
My Project
My classroom library is a place my students look forward to spending time in. These books collections will continue to enhance the print-rich resource classroom library that I strive to create for all my students. My students love to have books read to them, read independently, and even check them out to take home so they can show off their reading skills and knowledge to their friends and family!
These book collections will encourage my students to continue to cultivate their joy for reading.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books at their own independent reading level, as well as, their personal interests. Bringing a diversity of book collections into my classroom library, also helps me provide more reading opportunities for students to cultivate their joy and pleasure of leisure reading.
Many of my students are determined to increase their knowledge and ability to read, and one of the best ways to do it, is by giving access to more books and more opportunities to practice their reading. These books will continue to help my students grow as stronger readers. Students will be able to choose books from these book collections, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
