My students need a classroom library to be able to continue increasing their reading fluency and comprehension skills. I am trying to instill a love of reading in my students!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom come from differing backgrounds, but all of them bring a unique personality to our community of learners. My students come from low-income/high poverty homes and with that comes different challenges. As their teacher it is my duty to provide the safest and warmest environment for them to have their best opportunity for learning. My students need me to be more than just their teacher, sometimes I'm a nurse, counselor, friend, mom, or superhero and with that I strive to help my students in any way possible.
My Project
I teach students from a low-economic background and many do not have access to books at home, therefore I feel as a part of being their teacher I need to give my students access to high interest books. I myself love reading and love reading to my students. I would love to be able to create a substantial classroom library so that my students can learn to love reading as much as I do.
I want to provide books that all my students can read and appreciate.
I have some books that I have brought into the classroom from my own personal collection, but it doesn't extend to all levels of readers and it isn't very extensive. Many of my students are below grade level with their reading skills and with these books I hope to build and strengthen those skills.
