My Students

Dr. Seuss is quoted "you are never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." Many of my kindergartens are facing school for the first time in their life. My main goal is for each of my students to develop a LOVE for learning and reading by the end of the year.

I have 42 bright eyed kindergarteners walking into the classroom everyday ready to learn.

Many of them have never attended school before and are just being exposed to the letters in the alphabet and different varieties of text. This is my first year teaching and kindergarten has been an amazing adventure. I see in my students eyes everyday that they are eager to learn and actually practice what they are learning. When you read a book to kindergarten children, they watch and listen. They are so excited and invested! Kindergarten is the first exposure these children have to school and I want to create lifelong learners! I want my students to want to come to school. To be eager to learn! This is the beginning of their learning journey and I want to start them off on the right foot.

My Project

In my classroom; reading, writing and listening is taught in a whole group setting with the children sitting on the carpet looking at an easel. Being a first year teacher, the easel that was left for me, is too small and outdated to hold the big reading and writing books that are required in our reading and writing programs . It has been difficult to teach and read when the books do not fit on the easel and the children in the back can not see. Having a new reading and writing center will hold bigger books and supplies, make our classroom more organized and make my teaching more effective and engaging for my kindergarteners for years to come.

My goal is to ignite the spark of love for reading and school in my kindergareners.

These kids are the future and deserve nothing but the best. This reading and writing center will help provide a teaching tool that will make learning more engaging and effective.
