My Students
There is a preschool song, The More We Get Together the Happier we'll Be. We sang this song often; it signals the students to gather together on the carpet for learning. Our carpets are too small, old worn and dirty. Please help us to gain new classroom carpets. Our carpets are at least 12 years old
My students are PreK ages 4-5.
We have a schedule that requires most activities take place on the classroom carpet. They enjoy morning time circle, story time, the counting game and music and movement; all of which requires a carpeted area. Our curriculum states, that students are to learn through play. These activities have help the students become confident, outgoing, willing to participate. They are no longer afraid to speak up and answer questions without the fear of being right or wrong.
My Project
Small children enjoy learning through sights, sounds and socialization. Having classroom carpets, will allow them to gather for story time, music and movement and other academics. I enjoy the close proximity when teaching and so do the students. There are so many other things that we do on our carpets: show and tell, sharing random thoughts and relaxation techniques. The students look forward to the time spent on the classroom carpets. I have noticed that the students are at their best and are most happy when we learn and play together as a group.
My school district cannot afford to have our carpets cleaned.
I paid to have our current carpets cleaned. The end result was not good, they became moldy and mildewed. This is a health hazard for staff and students. I did what I thought was the right thing to do to make learning bearable and comfortable for my students. We spend more time together on our classroom carpet than we do at our tables. The students gain a sense of appreciation for learning and confidence in themselves when learning.
