My Students

As a school librarian, I make a positive impact on all 600 students in our learning community. My campus is a Title I school, and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They show up to the library bright-eyed and eager to communicate, collaborate, and learn. The library is the heart of the school and a safe place where students can build a love of reading. My students have a wide variety of learning styles and levels. Each one is unique, and everyone in the library respects each other. I care about my students, and they know it!

My goal is to encourage students to become independent and lifelong readers and learners.

At the library, students enjoy reading a good book, being innovators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. I especially love that they are creative and try their best at everything that comes their way. I want my students to remember me when they grow up, so I make them feel welcome, safe, and important on a daily basis.

My Project

I am passionate about instilling a love of reading in children no matter their learning style and level. In March, we celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday during Read Across America week. These Dr. Seuss books and decorations will help my students with their author study of Theodore Geisel aka, Dr. Seuss!

The key to fostering a love of reading is to create positive reading experiences.

The books will be used as reading and writing mentor texts. My students will learn Dr. Seuss's style of writing by reading his books. I will ask them essential author study questions throughout the week. To get them motivated I plan on decorating and dressing up with them the entire week! I am positive my students will have so much fun learning!
