We need two composting kits and a digital thermometer to monitor the chemical reactions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At Principal’s Center Collaborative High School, we provide a rigorous, hands-on science program. Our students are all talented, but troubled youth on probation. We offer two science courses, which include Biology and Integrated Science. Students pursue their own questions, design experimental procedures, practice collecting data, analyze and draw conclusions based on their data, and also, through a strong writing component, students learn to communicate, justify, and publish their conclusions.
We have been researching the amount of trash each day in our school which is currently being dumped in a landfill. 85% of what is thrown away each day in our school could be recycled or made into compost. However, our school administrator tells us that we no longer have any money for science materials this year, even though only 6 weeks of school have passed.
Knowing that our school is a major contributor to filling up land fills with compostible waste is unacceptable. Most of our waste can become compost and the rest can be recycled. We are also missing a wonderful opportunity to study the way that nature (worms) contributes to turning waste into a valuable commodity, rich, fertile soil.
Your donation will help students to practice changing behaviors that currently are contributing to the problem of global warming, and to become actively involved in finding a solution.
