This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My boys love math! In third grade multiplication and division are a big part of our daily routine.They love to practice multiplication flash cards but only if they can use our only set of Hot Dots. Multiple sets of Hot Dots will engage more enthusiasm for students to master multiplication.

Our class is single gender - boys classroom.

They are eager learners but many have the challenge of being below grade level or ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Language). My students love coming to school. Although our school is 98% free and reduced lunch our students and parents value education and support our school. Since our classroom is single gender instruction is delivered based on researched practices for boys to enable them to be successful and life long learners.

My Project

Students will use the Hot Dots pen and flash cards daily. They will have independent class time to move anywhere in the room and practice independently. Students will also have the time to use them as early finisher work. Students can also use these with partners. These flash cards are more engaging and students receive a quick positive response that will enable them to master their math facts. It is a very important skill for students to have this skill mastered by the end of third grade. This skill will be essential for learning additional concepts in math and having a solid understanding of number sense. Most students do not get the opportunity to practice facts at home. This provides them with a fun and successful way to want to practice.

Having multiple sets of Hot Dots in the classroom will give more students time to practice.

Students also need to learn to practice independently. This will give them the independence to be in charge of their own learning. My students will not have to depend on someone at home to help them master fact fluency because of the opportunity to practice independently at school.
