This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students who are full of energy. They visit the library once per week for a scheduled special. In addition, teachers send students to the library to complete a task or come for a full-class activity. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They love reading diverse books, participating in makerspace activities and STEM challenges, and are very curious. There are over 1,400 students in our school! I have a large population of English language learners. They are eager to learn and enjoy every minute of it. My students are both general and special education students. They are all amazing kids!
We are requesting the materials to put on a "Masked Reader" Assembly (a spin off of the Masked Singer)
The Masked Reader Assembly is designed to foster a love of reading and promote a culture of literacy in a way that is joyful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for our K-5 students. By combining storytelling with playful mystery and performance, this event taps into students’ natural curiosity and imagination!
Hearing stories read aloud by 5th grade contestants in disguise builds excitement and anticipation around books, encouraging students to see reading as fun and magical. The use of costumes and voice changers adds an element of surprise that grabs student attention and increases engagement with both the text and the reader. Diverse books will be chosen to represent all students so they can see themselves in story.
Additionally, the event strengthens connections between students and staff, as students and teachers will guess which student is the masked reader. It helps reinforce the message that literacy is valued and celebrated across the school community.
