If you were to take a peek into my kindergarten classroom you would see a class of 25 inquisitive, energetic, rambunctious, 5 and 6 year old children who are excited about discovering more about the world around them!
You would see young students who are excited about learning how to put letters together to enter the magical world of reading and writing!
You would also the see their happy faces as they accomplish new feats and gain confidence in themselves!
My Project
Reading is a crucial skill for young learners. Learning about letters and sounds can sometimes be cumbersome for students but iPads are a simple and kid friendly way that makes learning to read not only fun but motivating!
Students' engagement increases dramatically when they are able to hear letters and sounds speak and move around on an iPad rather than completing a worksheet and then they are able to progress and have fun at the same time!
There are children who struggle to learn to read every year and as a teacher I use every tool that I can possibly get my hands on to make this endeavor more successful for my students. iPads with cases in the classroom are such a great addition because they can be used across the subjects in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and everything in between! These iPads will be used to utilize the Lexia language arts program that is interactive and zeroes in on each students specific needs. Our class would also benefit from these iPads to create a listening center that will use QR codes for students to read and listen to books. In addition students will be able to apply their reading skills as they can use the Scholastic "Let's Find Out" magazine subscription that is created for emerging readers. It is all about expanding their horizons and helping them to be successful readers so that their confidence in being a learner grows and they feel that they are "smart" and can do anything!
Thank you for helping them learn to read! I wish I could l share the magical glow on their face as they learn their letters, recognize words, and are finally able to finish their first book on their own!
