My students need books to improve their science literacy. Since I teach in multiple classes, I need materials for each classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Saletan's classroom raised $586

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These books will help both 4th &5th graders better understand the world they live in. They love the "magic" of science in our natural world.
My 4th graders love studying and reading about animals, and biomes around the world. My 5th graders can't get enough about rocks, minerals & volcanoes.
My school is a Title 1 school.
Many of my students spend their summers at home inside. Their exposure to nature and the natural beauty of the areas around them is extremely limited. They love science though! They have a natural curiosity for how things in our world evolve. There are "oohs and aahs" when they can have the opportunity to do any "hands-on" experiments. It is always a joy to bring these things into the classroom and watch their natural curiosity explode.
For many of my students this is the only exposure to science/nature that they have. Many are in a situation where the parents work, so they don't have no opportunity to go out and explore the world around them in their neighborhood.
My Project
These books and "hands-on" materials are essential for my students. There is such a natural curiosity about science and the world around them. For many this is the only exposure they will have to see some of these things like minerals or animal specimens up close. The "hands-on" materials will give them an up-close look at rock & minerals and the beautiful colors deep inside our Earth. The books will complete the picture and give them the full understanding of the how and why of our world. I travel from room to room so many of the books I have asked for duplicate copies.
In addition, the books will give my students a deeper understanding about the Earth and weather. It's important to prepare them for middle /high school science. I truly believe that by opening the door now, what they learn now will possibly lead some of them to someday be in the scientific or technical field.
My students love science books, fun filled fact books, and "how -to" books and biographies of scientists.
These books will open up a window to the world for them. It will let them explore & develop their natural curiosity. Since I move from room to room, I have asked for multiple copies of some books so everyone can get a chance to read.
