This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They are resilient. They come from a diverse background. The majority of my students are minorities.

The socioeconomics of the school is mainly below poverty, but these kids do not let that keep them down.

They are working hard to overcome the obstacles that have been placed in their path. Many have to work full time to help contribute to their families. They still show up every day to school, working hard to be successful.

My students are a fun group that has not always had positive adult role models that believe in them. They are so kind and respectful. They want to make me proud of them. I will tell you that they have succeeded. I am very proud of the way they have worked this year with everything that 2020 has thrown at them.

My Project

The science kits and equipment will allow my students to see the concepts we have been learning about in our environmental science class. Students will be able to "do" science.

Getting into the lab and being able to see the concepts helps students have a real understanding of the topics.

This will help my students get excited about science and will ignite a desire to work towards a STEM career.

We need more minority students in STEM careers. I have found the best way to get students excited about science is to get them in the lab and have them become an active part of their education.
