Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One of my students said this year, "I have only finished two whole books before I read James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. I actually liked reading this book!"
I want all of my students to be hooked on reading.
I have seen my fifth grade students, over 80% of them on free reduced lunch, get inspired by reading this year. Many of my ESL students love The Magic Tree House books and have read every single book that I own from that collection. Other students would like to read more Roalh Dahl books.
My Project
I know that getting students hooked on series books is one of the best way to boost ESL students understanding of English. For this reason, I am requesting books from three different authors that students really relate to.
For my newcomer ESL students, I would like some more Magic Tree House books. This will give them the foundation of reading for fun.
For my intermediate ESL students, I have noticed that they really like the Dahl books, and having a variety that they can read would be beneficial.
For my native English speakers and students who have stronger reading skills, I would like to have them read some A Wrinkle In Time, because our local theater is going to be producing the play this coming year.
Nothing is more important that reading.
I know that if I can get my students hooked on books that they like, they will keep on reading more and more! Please help them become life long lovers of books.
