My students need hands-on materials for math workshop. Base ten blocks, snap cubes, measuring tools, place value discs, and fraction towers will allow my students to concretely understand new math concepts.

My Students
I teach the sweetest bunch of 3rd graders who come from varying backgrounds, including transient military families and low-income households. We have been recognized as a Global-Ready School for teaching globally-minded, future leaders. Through a program known as Leader in Me, we also strive to practice the 7 habits of happy kids throughout our school days.
When the atmosphere encourages learning, the learning is irresistible.
My students learn best through hands-on, authentic experiences that allow them to move throughout the classroom. My students particularly enjoy dancing, singing, and group jump rope games.
My Project
My students need hands-on materials for math workshop. Our school uses the Singapore Math approach which allows students to learn new concepts through concrete, pictorial, and abstract methods.
Bringing math to life for students, through hands-on tools and books, allows learning to occur in meaningful ways.
Connecting math concepts to real-life helps students relate to the skills they are learning.
Among the requested items, the fraction towers will make fractions more tangible and further students concrete understanding of equivalent fractions. The base ten blocks will solidify their number sense and support students in working through problems using addition and subtraction with regrouping. Place value discs will have immediate impact on my students' abilities to make sense of numbers and number patterns. The math focused mentor-texts will provide real examples of how math is used in everyday life. I can't wait to use these books to link literature and math in a fun way!
