This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second grade students are great! Every single one of them has made strides in their reading! We have read all genres. As an avid reader, myself, my goal has always been for my students to love reading!
For this reason, I'd like to start reading The Magic Finger, together, as a class.
We will be doing standards based activities using the book. My students deserve to read, together, an enjoyable core literature book, like The Magic Finger.
Using core lit, instead of short stories, gives them many opportunities
to explore different components of the book together. It gives them a great experience. I've learned how much the children love this type of activity after 24 years of teaching. Former students have come back to me reminding me, "Do you remember how we read The Hundred Dresses together and completed Choice Boards?" (Example of another book we have read and worked on together) It's a great experience for all children!
