The Magic Carpet project is for a third grade class in an inner-city school. Where a lot of the students do not have a strong love for reading. Some students may not even have books to appreciate or a comfortable space to read them in.
My class spends a lot of time exploring different types of literature. This may be the students first experience of falling in love with books. I would like to make their reading experience more exciting and magical. This experience should start with coming into an environment of bright and colorful visual aids. This rug will help enrich the imagination and spark the interest of reading different types of literature. Just as the cover of a book can draw the interest of a reader so can a bright area to read. This area rug will be a good location for students to lay on to read and enjoy independently or share dreams and ideas with a partner. Also for myself to give re-alouds and mini-lessons that would that would get students involved and away from the norm of sitting at a desk.
This bright and colorful rug will bring a lot of excitement and character to a room where students will grow and learn through reading. You can help a child discover new worlds and gain experiences that might have a positive affect on their lives. Thank you for your time.
