My Project

Cursive Writing is still important.

Cursive writing involves continuous, flowing movements, which help strengthen hand muscles and enhance coordination.

This can benefit handwriting overall and tasks requiring precision (e.g. art, playing instruments). Studies show that writing by hand—especially in cursive—can improve memory and learning. It helps students process and retain information better and engages multiple parts of the brain at once (motor, visual, and cognitive). With practice, cursive writing becomes faster than printing because letters are connected, reducing pen lifts. It is ideal for note-taking and timed writing tasks. Learning cursive can improve reading comprehension. Students become able to read historical documents or handwritten notes and cursive encourages letter recognition and fluidity in reading. Cursive develops a personal style, giving students a sense of ownership over their writing and a creative way to express themselves. Mastering cursive takes time and practice so it teaches perseverance and attention to detail. It helps develop a growth mindset. Even today, cursive is useful in signing documents, writing thank-you notes or cards, and reading older family letters or records.
