The Long Lost Art of Listening

Help me give my students the resource and gift of listening to interesting subject related content. Listening is a skill all of us can keep growing our brains with.

My Students

I started with these students in the 6th grade and loved them so much I decided to move up to 7th grade with them. The students endured a rigorous year of me trying to inspire them to be the best version of themselves whether or not they loved school. My students and I were awarded the most growth in English and Math in the entire school district. Needless to say, these students worked extremely hard! I want to inspire them to keep that growth going by rewarding them throughout the year.

What makes my students so special is the community that they have built is the most beautiful aspect of it all. They are friends with everyone, maybe not the best of friends, but they can work with and find commonalities with everyone in our class. They welcome new students and appreciate everyone for who they are.

My Project

Listening is a skill that my students have been struggling with since 6th grade. This is our biggest area of growth opportunity for our students. If you take a look at society, most people are just listening in order to respond, they aren't truly listening for knowledge. Having students develop the skill of listening in order to gain knowledge will not only help them currently, but it will set them up for success in college when their primary source of knowledge is lectures from their professors.

Listenwise if a great resource for listening that has fun and entertaining stories and great lesson plans for student comprehension and discussions.

This resource will allow students to have access to many different types of audio from all different subject areas.

Bring back the skill of listening to the younger generation so that we can create a generation of great listeners. These are the start of students listening to podcasts and potentially starting their own. Research shows that if you can be a good listener, then you can be a better reader. Please help our school by providing this amazing resource!
