My students need 50 copies of the novel Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief. Each student will have his or her own copy of the novel for classroom independent reading and home reinforcement.

My Students
"Excuses are tools of incompetence, they build monuments of nothingness, and those who specialize in their uses seldom accomplish anything." This is a quote my students learn the first week of school each year. It's our mantra, a reminder that we can do anything if we truly put our minds to it. Most importantly, it inspires us to shy away from excuses and focus on solutions.
I work in an inner city school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunches.
Despite those challenges, My students are excited to work on the many engaging projects I design throughout the school year. This year will not be any different.
My Project
Each year, I introduce 4-5 engaging novels to my students to get them motivated to be lifelong readers. After each book, my students always ask about the second book in the series or other books by the selected author. They do not want to stop reading!
In our neighborhood, books give an escape from the rough life many of my students face when they leave our school community.
Books help reinforce reading strategies, but also help students sort out life strategies that will help them be functioning members of our world. It's important for our classroom to have access to engaging literature.
