Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Pictures are worth a thousand words. Do most consider it to be an art? I would like to expose students to different forms of art. Students must know behind every picture there is a story. These stories must be communicated and showcased to further encourage curiosity and expression in a fun and subtle way. I am proud to oversee a vibrant community of young and aspiring photographers who are eager to develop their skills in traditional film photography to create a wall of expression.
My goal is to provide students with a camera to foster technical proficiency, creativity and expression through photography.
Students are extremely limited with supplies because exploring the art of photography is not a high priority as are core content areas such as reading, math, and science. However, it can bring in perspectives taught in Language Arts. The purchase of a Canon camera will allow my students to learn the art of photography using varied equipment. Further, the project will increase the success of students creating a wall of expression which includes still images and mini film clips. Students will visit communities and meetings to capture the essence of community activities, facilities, parks, and community leaders. Students will then use the images to create a wall of expression in which classrooms and stakeholders can visit to see stories through photography. All stories are not found in novels. Help me to enable my students to tell stories in art form - photography.
