Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am excited to start the new school year with my new 5th grade through 8th-grade classes. However, since I am new to the school, that means I am starting new with resources. The pandemic has created an environment where learning will be fully virtual this year. I have to get creative introducing myself and building relationships with the 400 students in the school community. All of my young scholars are considered low-income and qualify for free and reduced lunch. The pandemic has not made this challenge easier. But, as we all know, children are resilient!
My Project
BrainPOP engages students through animated movies, learning games, interactive quizzes, and primary source activities that can be accessed while virtually learning or during hybrid learning.
BrainPOP is correlates with academic standards and spans all academic subjects, including current events and social emotional learning.
I can work with my students in large groups or in a one to one setting. BrainPOP allows multiple extension activities to meet students at the learning level they are currently at with room to expand.
Most importantly, BrainPOP is an interactive way to engage students with topics during a school year that has seen a dramatic decrease in school attendance and engagement for our minority students.
