My Students

My students attend a public school that houses Kindergarten through 5th grade. Starting this upcoming school year, I am starting in a larger Kindergarten classroom! Previously, I was teaching in a classroom that was small and not ideal for students to move around, play, and learn. I would like to give my students the materials that they can use in this large classroom, that they couldn't have before.

My students are a very energetic and curious bunch of kiddos, and we love to use all of the different areas of our classroom.

We are always finding different uses for our materials in our classroom, and this usually involves coming up with different ways to use our hands on materials to learn our curriculum!

My Kindergarten kiddos love to learn using hands-on materials and through play. Over the years, my students have asked for one particular item in the classroom, Legos! It is time that I incorporate Legos into my Kindergarten curriculum the possibilities are endless!

My Project

What Kindergarten students doesn't like Legos? Lego was named after the Danish phrase leg godt, or “play well.” My students love to use hands-on materials to learn and "play well"! What better way then with Lego bricks! My students will be able to use the Lego pieces in the classroom to play with, but they will also be used in a variety of academic activities.

Lego pieces allow for an astonishing range of creative play and academic opportunities.

Lego pieces can be used across the curriculum in Kindergarten. They can be used to sort, practice making patterns, addition and subtraction. But that is not it, Lego pieces can be used to make letters, practice building and identifying sight words, and much more.

If my students were able to have access to Lego pieces and bricks in my classroom, they would be thrilled to play with them! More importantly, my students would be much more engaged in the academic activities knowing they will be using Legos to learn.
