The Learning Power of Lego

My students need Lego building blocks to grow as innovators, explorers, inventors, and thinkers through play, along with their families.

My Students

My students are an awesome group of 3rd grade service workers. We are Team Paws! It's our goal to change the world with kindness. Even the smallest kind act can mean a lot; hold the door, smile at someone, use your manners, be humble, and be kind, always.

My students understand that what they do and say matters.

They know their actions can make a difference. As members of Team Paws, they learn we truly DO rise by lifting others.

Not only that, but my girls and boys are our nation's next scientists, teachers, engineers, factory workers, cashiers, managers, doctors, and more. In today's world, many jobs are STEM-related. This Lego project will allow my kids to grow as innovators, explorers, thinkers, and inventors through play.

My Project

Every Thursday, my smart students participate in a Thinking Thursday STEM Challenge. During this time, they create, collaborate, and think critically while striving to solve various STEM-related challenges. I want to incorporate the use of Legos into these fun, child-centered, team-building, learning activities.

Oh, the magic of Legos; a timeless toy for ages 4-99.

In fact, Legos might possibly be the world's most perfect toy; Bricks today still have the same bumps and holes, and can interlock with the bricks made 50 years ago. Now that's amazing!

Even more amazing are the smart brains of my incredible students; they are the next generation of Lego makers, designers of stuff, and creators of things. My students are masters of creativity.

Can exploration through Lego-play help me to light this passion within my bright-minded students? Yes! Playing with Legos is fun!

When it comes to STEM Learning, incorporating Legos is easy. Just let kids build, explore, and problem solve. There are no wrong solutions; it's all part of the learning process.

From building a simple machine with a working crane to a catapult that launches marshmallows the farthest, innovation and creativity is key! If you can dream it, you can build it! The learning power of Lego is virtually endless.

Further, as a way to incorporate parental involvement, I'd like to invite parents, once a month, to join their children in Lego play and exploration. After all, playing with Legos is something we all can relate to. Legos truly are a timeless toy with so many educational benefits.

When parents are able to join their children for a stress-free, fun and hands-on activity, like building with Legos, so many wonderful connections are being made. These are great bonding opportunities for children and their parents that are both fun and educational.
