Greetings! I am the Instructional Technology Coach at the amazing BSE where we are “Building a Community of Leaders.” We are a Title I school located in rural South Carolina. After 20 years in education, I am excited for this new journey and all the learning opportunities it will bring. I know that working with students in kindergarten through 5th grade will bring challenges that will strengthen us all. Welcome to our STEM adventure and fasten your seat belts for the ride!
If there is one lesson that I have learned, it is not to place my own limitations on my students.
When you serve students in a high need, high poverty area, every advantage has the potential to be life-changing. No matter what challenges our students may face in life, they come to school ready to learn and eager to explore.
My Project
Creating a STEAM lab in our school is a wonderful way to encourage learning opportunities that include science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Students will have a home-style environment where they can investigate, create, and let their minds soar. This will be a space that will give them the “feel” of working at a company like Apple where one of the perks is the working environment.
In this environment, students will be encouraged to improve their 21st Century learning skills - collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking!
Students will have the flexibility to move around and be comfortable while learning. Whether building, creating, or coding, students will have opportunities in the STEAM lab that will challenge their creative minds. The flexible, comfortable seating options such as sofas and an ottoman will support our efforts to collaborate and engage in meaningful work. The storage bins and containers will store materials that students can access for their final creations. We are preparing our students to be Future Ready...Now.
